Is it a surprise to anyone that you may not be working on the same things, or even have the same job that you were working 5 years ago? Some of you have never even lasted in the same industry long enough to update your license plate tabs. Well, you’re not alone. Problem is that not a lot of people believe you can be successful in an industry where you have to start from the bottom. It is a very short, sided approach to not look at a future position. Of course, not everyone has had parents that have been doing a job they did for a few decades and were very proud to say anything about it. Military i hear all the time of the pride they have had in how long they have been in. if you’re not military then you probably don’t give a shit if someone has done 20-30 years. Not really an issue, unless you’re in your 30’s and you’re still trying to figure out what you want to do with your life. I commend anyone that has committed to a way of life for a portion of their lives. I don’t mean 2-3 years; I mean between 1- 3 decades. Those people saw a path and they stuck with it. Those of you that have had 5 or 6 jobs in the last decade, are just making it harder for yourself to see any real progress in the work that you have done.
You move from one job to the next because of a higher paycheck. I get it, i like money too, but what you’re seeing is a blanket effect of skills when you need to be spearheading through paying your dues and gaining a level of experience that could lead to supervisor, district manager or even senior level director positions. It is the same as hiring managers look at when they see resumes with too many moves in a given time. They are thinking this person is only going to be here 6 months- a year before they get bored and want something else. If they see an intended path through your resume, they are more likely to be the company that takes a chance on you because their picture is clear that this is what you have intended to do.
Try asking a basket weaver who has been doing it for 10 years if they can help us in our gender study poll. Probably not the person you want to ask when getting accurate information or having a sound mind of the subject. Not that people really give a shit about either, but when looking at your future, even in your 30s, and 40s just remember, another 20-30 years more of working till retirement. So, start looking at what your wish to accomplish and spear heading your way through what you must do to get to where you want.
Starting your own business or not, having a job at any age won’t mean shit if you neglect the process of what you’re doing and only know the labor side. As you grow with your company you are learning the ins and outs of what it means to be successful, not just as a company but as someone who can see a future for himself as a business owner. Everyone says to follow your passions, but they never say JUST PICK ONE DICK HEAD, thanks dad. Bangov Actual, out.
